Saturday Evening with Good Food and Company

On Saturday me and the husband, meet up with his friend and wife in Manchester and went to a contemporary Indian restaurant which was very sophisticated and low-lit.  We were seated in a booth, which was very nice as we were able to socialize and enjoy ourselves.

After looking at the drinks menu, I decided to go for something different, while the husband went for his usual Coke. I went for a Vanilla Berry mocktail, which was made up of  Raspberries and blackberries muddled with homemade vanilla sugar lengthened with cranberry and apple juice. It had a very fruity taste to it and I thoroughly enjoyed drinking it.

We then went on to order the starters, where we all ordered individual, which was nice because everyone got to eat what they fancied. It was funny however because we all ordered just one starter but the husband got a bit excited and ordered two starters, which he claims was for us all to share, however he ate the majority of it…. haha.

So for starters I ordered a dish called Chingri Chaap, which was Kings Prawns, marinated in ginger, garlic and spices, rolled in breadcrumbs and fried. The dish was then garnished with tomatoes and a cabbage slice along with a apple sauce. I enjoyed this dish as there was only 2 pieces but it was enough to satisfy my needs. They were tasty to eat because of the flavour but also the crunch it had from the deep frying.

Our friends ordered the Venison Samosas and Stuffed cheese mushrooms and they enjoyed their starters. The Husband ordered Pan-fried potato cutlets stuffed with mashed green peas and served with tangy chickpeas, which he did enjoy. The other starter that he ordered, which he claimed was for everyone was a selection of Tandoori Broccoli, Paneer chunks and more pan-fried potato cutlets. He did share some of this with our friends.

Moving on to the main course, his friend could not deal with any spices at all and therefore ordered a plain dish of Chicken tikka in a tomato and cream gravy, delicately flavoured with dried fenugreek leaves, which he still found spicy. His wife ordered a chicken Biryani, which came with a yoghurt raita, she enjoyed her dish. The husband ordered an oven-roasted and mashed aubergines cooked with ginger, garlic, green chillies and fresh green coriande. I ordered okra cooked with onions and flavoured with cumin and carom seeds. We all had these dishes with plain naans and Tandoori Roti. Overall we all enjoyed our mains despite his friend’s mouth being of fire.

We then moved onto the desserts, where I had a new york cheesecake with an almond
& pistachio base, which was served with fresh seasonal fruits of blackberries and strawberries. It was very yummy and sweet. The Husband had an Indian classic of rasmalai, which was coated with pecan praline and served with raspberries and blackberries. He enjoyed his dessert and our friend had a Tangy lemon tart topped with a light & fluffy meringue and served with a raspberry and mint coulis to cool his mouth.

We then went on to a number of places for drinks and to continue our catch up, however we all had a lovely time and throughly enjoyed the food at this restraunt.
